The Checkout presents “Shoptalk”, a new series co-hosted by grocery expert Eve Cohen. This week we do a deep dive into the wholesale sector, and how the “middle” of the food supply chain really works.

Our co-host Eve Cohen is Co-Founder and CEO, Marcellus Foods. Eve is a digital grocery expert and culinary trendsetter. Raised in Northern California’s sustainable food culture, Eve’s lifelong career in food began with a childhood love of vegetables. In 2013, driven by her conviction that digital grocery could reshape how people connect to their food and the people who produce it, she joined Bay Area startup Good Eggs. Her great taste and keen eye for industry trends helped her develop the brand’s engaging visual style and build a marketplace of over 250 local farmers and food makers, many of whom have become national brands. Recognizing that her customers loved cooking but were starved for time, Eve created the foundation of the company’s meal kit program. She then joined Walmart’s Online Grocery Pickup team to pursue her passion for making home cooking easier, where she built shopping and meal planning tools for the country’s largest grocer. Eve’s deep empathy for people and her insatiable curiosity about their eating habits led her to see something her colleagues couldn’t: every customer she spoke to was struggling with the mental and physical labor of everyday cooking, and digital tools alone weren’t solving the problem. This unique insight is what led her to found Marcellus Foods in 2021.
